Your Guide To Gas Safety

Gas Safety Certificates demonstrate that a Gas Safe registered engineer has installed a heat producing gas appliance within a property. It is of the utmost importance that all gas appliances are fitted by a fully qualified engineer to avoid potentially dangerous consequences. In the latest post from EGP Plumbers, we discuss Gas Safety Records and Building Regulations Compliance Certificates in further detail.

Having a new Appliance Fitted

If you require a new gas appliance to be fitted in your home, you may decide to shop around to ensure you get the best quote – typically, collecting three quotes will give you a good idea on the costs you are looking at.

To provide you with peace of mind, you may also want to look into reviews of previous work carried out by a company, and check the business has public liability insurance. Additionally, you may also want to check if the work will affect your own home insurance in any way.

Now you have chosen the company you would like to carry out the work for you, it is best practice to have the work confirmed in writing, including the cost and how payments will be made.

Once all work has been completed, be sure that you obtain the necessary commissioning documents such as the Benchmark certificate for boilers.

Moving Home?

If you are about to move into a new property, you should always check when the gas appliances in the home were last serviced. The vendor of the property should be able to provide this information to you, however, in cases where they can’t, you should always have checks carried out on the gas appliances in a property, prior to moving in. Regular checks of the gas appliances in your home will drastically reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks, fires and explosions.
